What is code .999, .950, .935 and .925 in Silver?

.999 Silver

  • This is the purest form of silver. Fine silver or pure silver is a hypoallergenic metal with 99.9% silver content. The remaining 0.1% consists of trace elements, usually copper. If these trace elements exceed 0.1%, the metal can’t be called fine silver. Despite being hypoallergic, Fine silver has the highest price point in all silver categories. Due to its lowest contains of alloy (base metals), fine silver is very soft and thus is vulnerable to easy scratches and is not the best choice for jewellery making.

  • Code .999 means 99.9% Silver

  • It is Hypoallergenic.

.950 Silver

  • This type of silver contains the highest silver in its alloy. More expensive than .935 and Sterling Silver (.925) due to its high content of Silver. It is composed of 95% Silver and 5% Copper. this .950 Silver has a good whitish shine when polished and is hard enough to create jewellery giving it’s soft state, making it the best choice for jewellery artists to create intricate details since it is malleable.

  • Code .950 means 95% Silver 5% Copper

  • It is considered Hypoallergenic.

.935 Silver

  • Also known as Argentium Silver and is made up of 93.5% Silver and 6.5% Copper. Compared with Sterling Silver, Argentium Silver is more expensive, has a much brighter shine to it, is more durable and is less prone to tarnish quickly thus making it more valuable than Sterling Silver. Due to its higher content of silver, it is less likely to cause allergic reactions.

  • Code .935 means 93.5% Silver and 6.5% Copper.

  • It is considered Hypoallergenic.

.925 Silver

  • The most famous Code in the Silver family i.e Sterling Silver. It comprises 92.5% silver and 7.5% Copper. Although it contains the lowest composition of SIlver, with high composition of Copper (alloy) makes it much stronger and durable in jewellery making, therefore it is the most popular choice used by jewellers. The downside of Sterling Silver is that it requires much proper care to slow down the oxidation process compared with other types of Silver with a lesser percentage of Copper.

  • Code .925 means 92.5% Silver and 7.5% Copper.

  • It is still considered to be Hypoallergenic.
